J is for Jalapenos

Jalapenos are a variety of chili pepper.

Jalapenos are mostly available green, turning red as they mature. These peppers contain a negligible amount of calories, with only 4 calories in one pepper. They also have less than a gram each of protein and fat and just 0.91 gram of carbohydrates in a serving, making them a good choice for low-carb diets.  PLUS they are wicked tasty!

Did you know:  according to studies, chili peppers can provide pain relief for migraine and sinus headaches. Capsaicin, the chemical that makes chili peppers hot, is known to inhibit a key neuropeptide, Substance P, that is the key brain pain transmitter.

-  quick shout out to my youngest sister who is celebrating her birthday today!  Happy Birthday Heather!

  1. I didn't know they were good for pain. They will clear out your sinuses though!

  2. It's too bad I'm such a spicy food wimp. I don't like anything that's hot!

  3. I knew about the sinuses as they cleared out mine. Actually had a Thai dish and hidden was a small pepper that I crunched down on. After my head exploded and I was gasping for air and swallowed tons of water, I finally got some of their crackers which eased the pain. I talked like I just came from the dentist and was drooling because my face was frozen for the rest of the lunch and it was numb for the rest of the day-my friend felt bad, after she laughed of course

  4. Funny how they can change colors but only on the vine. Green Bell peppers and red bell peppers are one in the same. Just like jalapeno, it's green first then red.

  5. Maybe they're great for pain because you're distracted when your tongue is on fire?

  7. I love jalapenos! A while back we had some food that had peppers that were so hot, I couldn't taste the food. They were little tiny things, but I can't remember the name.
