The Best & The Worst of The Remakes

Best & Worst Movie Remakes Blogfest!

We're all still just coming off the A to Z high, and the Blogging Ninja Alex J is at it again!  This time with the best and worst movie remakes blogfest.

True Grit (2010)
There have been a few really good remakes in my mind from King Kong, to War of the Worlds, 3:10 to Yuma, Brothers and The Magnificant Seven.

I think the top 3 BEST REMAKES are:
3) Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (1971 and 2005)
2) The Departed (2002, 2006)
1) True Grit (1969, 2010)

There have also been a few too many bad remakes.... The Stepford Wives, Poseidon, Arthur, The Women

The top 3 WORST REMAKES:
1) The Pink Panther (1963, 2006)
2) The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951, 2008)
3) Swept Away  (1974, 2002)

What do you think?  Best and Worst?

  1. True Grit is showing up on a lot of lists today.
I didn't select it, but that Day the Earth Stood Still remake really is one of the worst. Horrible script and Reeves was a zombie.
Thanks for participating in our blogfest!

    1. Reeves is always a zombie (well except for the Matrix movies)

  2. I am not a fan of the True Grit remake at all. I love the girl who played Maddie-she was better than Kim Darby but Jeff Bridges doing that crusty voice just wanted to make me give him a losenge. Agree with the worst for sure

    1. kiddo was my gage for the re-make of true grit, she really preferred it

  3. I'm absolutely too devoted to the original Willie Wonka to give the remake a chance. I can't think of any remakes that have been as good as the originals, but then again I'm not really a movie buff. Just as long as Hollywood never tries to remake To Kill a Mockingbird, I'll be happy!

    1. I enjoyed the original Wonka, but Johnny Depp and the Ommpa Loompas made this for me

  4. I liked the remake of the producers though the original was still much better

  5. I really like Johnny Depp but the Gene Wilder one is ingrained in my childhood forever.

  6. I'm seeing The Pink Panther on a lot of 'worst' lists today...and I have to agree. I didn't see it all, but saw enough to know it was a stinker :)

  9. LOVE War of the Worlds, one of my favorites. I also like the remake of Freaky Friday, but then again you really can't beat young Jodie Foster.;P

  10. I know I am in the minority, but I simply could not stand the True Grit remake...and I blame the director...he made the actors look like stiffs to me....like they were reading off of a page.

  11. 3:10 to Yuma is in many lists. And all of them list it as the best remake. I didn't see the original but I liked the new one very much. Thanks for participating!

  12. I hate to mention this but I think every blog I've been to that mentioned Willie Wonka has it listed as a worst. You must have seen something there that the rest of us missed.

    1. the original was a childhood fav for a lot of people

  14. The Martin/PINK PANTHER combo was sheer idiocy -- and not in a good way.

  15. I loved John Carpenter's re-make of The Thing.

I thought the re-make of True grit was pretty unnecessary. Same story with a less-charismatic lead actor who talks weird. I'll take the original any day.

  16. I can't argue about any of your choices. I totally forgot about the Pink Panther (gratefully so), that was SO bad.
