I'm such a flake

Time is just not my friend!!  I can't believe since I blogged again.  I have so many projects - er idea things on the go right now I can't seem to keep the days straight.  We'll go with the short update....

Me and Husband went with M and her boyfriend to Mexico (during the A to Z challenge) where I got a wicked bad sunburn on the 1st day, but didn't let it get me down.  We chilled on the beach, ate strange things, swam in Cenotes, participated in Myan blessings, climbed ruins, learned a few new phrases, and got chased by a giant iguana trying to steal my hamburger!

We came back from Mexico all burned up to find that the harbour was packed with ice.  Kiddo went on trip with her school band, then she had her school concert.  Then she sang Bobbie McGee and played Elphaba in her Voice conert.

Then my friend Debbie came down from Ontario to visit.  She loved the scenery, the row houses and George Street, but didn't like the cold.

We went on an ice berg tour, and I may or may not have got up close and personal with a berg.  Ok, I did I got sooo close my hands were all over it!  (which is a big deal - and you really should not get that close)

Then on Father's Day I ran the same 5K race I ran last year (here) by myself and managed to take 5 minutes off my time!  This year M was out of town.  I finally did something I have been talking about for a long time - I registered for the Tely10 a 10 mile road race!!! {{I shiver with nerves every time I think about it}}

And now some of the bergies are melting and the harbours are filling up with growlers and bergy bits.  Kiddo is studying for final exams.  And I still have too many project/idea things :)  BUT I'm gonna try not to be such a flake!

Family, honor rolls and a 40 pound ice cube

Last weekend a lot happened in my family. My husband's uncle passed away, and my cousin was in a very serious motor vehicle accident in St. John's (she still remains in critical condition).

Kiddo finished exams on Tuesday and made the honor roll! I have no idea where the time went, she will be starting eighth grade in September.

Wednesday we headed into town to visit at the hospital and pick up my sister in law and drive her to St. Vincent's for the funeral.

St. Vincent's has no cell phone reception or wifi so we were pretty cut off for a few days. It did however give us a chance to reconnect with members of husband's family who live out of the provence, and to cross a few things off my summer bucket list.

Go whale watching - CHECK! We spent several hours sitting on the beach watching the whales, and even made friends with a couple of Swedish tourists who were there also.

Go on a random midnight walk - CHECK! Husband and I strolled back to the beach later the same night to hear the whales singing. (it was way too dark to take a picture)

Hang out with old friends - check! We had a wonderful evening at the Yellow Belly Brewery, where we sampled their different brews. (so I could cross off trying something new also)

Go to a pub - CHECK! After supper at the Yellow Belly we headed down on George Street to check out Middle Tickle who were playing at Shamrock City. (I didn't take any pictures inside the pub)

We also did a few things that wern't on my list....

We visited a mini village in St. Mary's.

We saw an ice berg in Ferryland

I got a 40 pound ice cube on the beach

I've gotten 4 novels on my reading list finished and I found out that I'm going to be a great-aunt!

Its been a busy week with its ups and downs.

Please keep my cousin in your thoughts and hope for a full recovery.

The icebergs are coming! The icebergs are coming!

I spotted my first few icebergs while in St John's this weekend. You know what that means? Spring has come to Newfoundland! (Or will be here soon - we did have 25cm of snow yesterday.)

Icebergs are similar to snowflakes - no two are the same, but with icebergs they do follow some classification system...

TABULAR: Steep sides with a flat top - like a big table. These are very solid and often break away from ice sheets or ice shelves. (like the one in the picture)

DOME: Well, sort of rounded, of course!

BLOCKY: A flat-topped, block-shaped icebergs with steep vertical sides.

WEDGE: As the name implies, it's like a wedge. The top narrows to a pyramid-like point.

DRYDOCK: An iceberg which is eroded to form a little U-shaped enclosure - like a drydock.

PINNACLE: An iceberg with one or more spires.
